WHAT WE WANT/ updated

Short fiction (flash to 5000 wds). We will pay 50 dollars Canadian for stories under 500 words. 100 dollars Canadian for stories between 500-100 words. Anything between 1000 and 5000 words will net 200 dollars, Canadian. Woo-hoo! We will not accept longer pieces, and that, (with love,) in case you were going to query, is final.

We will no longer be accepting poetry.

We are looking for character-driven pieces; for whimsical, absurdist, elegant, horrific, heart-felt, energetic, sad, scary pieces; for hard sf, sf with a bit of give in it, fantasy, and everything in between.

 If you have put your heart into it, we want to see it. Just respect the word limits.

Sure-fire turnoffs.  We don't want to curb anyones style, but you may as well know you will probably hit the wall with these: gratuitous animal/pet death (certainly will never work for us as humour)/ racial slagging/full page sentences/ thinly disguised dogma/rubbishy monkey writing.-- although we might have work for an actual monkey.

Note: This first volume took longer than anticipated. Kit is taking time to finish her novel. At this point expect subs to begin next June 2010.
